NJ Sharing Network’s transplant lab earns accreditation from College of American Pathologists

The Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) has officially awarded accreditation to the NJ Sharing Network’s Transplant Laboratory following a rigorous on-site inspection.

The globally recognized credential highlights the laboratory’s adherence to stringent quality standards, risk mitigation, and operational excellence. Sharyn Sawczak, chief administrative officer at NJ Sharing Network, emphasized that precision and timeliness are vital in organ transplantation, noting that “behind every test is a person waiting for the opportunity for a second chance at life.”

  • Round-the-Clock Operations: Operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, the laboratory provides essential histocompatibility testing—including HLA typing, crossmatching, and antibody screening—to facilitate safe matches for deceased and living donors.
  • High-Volume Impact: Amid a growing need for testing, the facility completed more than 58,000 tests in 2025 to support complex and highly sensitized patients.
  • Rigorous Benchmark: CAP accreditation is respected worldwide as a gold standard for laboratory quality control, evaluation of staff qualifications, and adherence to best medical practices.

With more than 100,000 Americans—including over 3,000 New Jersey residents—currently waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant, the accredited laboratory plays a critical role in expediting successful matches.

Headquartered in New Providence, the NJ Sharing Network is a federally designated nonprofit organization dedicated to organ and tissue recovery, working alongside 56 local hospital partners across the region.
