Subaru supports Camden health care with $35K donation and 1,000 nurse appreciation kits

Subaru of America, Inc. is doubling down on its commitment to its hometown, announcing a $35,000 donation to The Cooper Foundation alongside a heartwarming volunteer effort to support the frontline staff at Cooper University Health Care.

This contribution marks the fifth consecutive year Subaru has provided financial support to aid Camden-based patients. Beyond the monetary gift, the automaker’s Subaru Loves to Care® initiative saw more than 70 employees volunteer their time to assemble 1,000 appreciation kits for Cooper nurses, complete with personal notes of gratitude.

The $35,000 donation is specifically earmarked to address the practical barriers that often prevent residents from receiving timely medical treatment. The funds will be utilized in two primary areas:

  • Durable Medical Equipment: Providing essential tools such as blood pressure monitors, glucometers, scales, wheelchairs, walkers, and canes to help patients manage chronic conditions at home.
  • Transportation Assistance: Ensuring residents can reliably reach their medical appointments, a critical hurdle for many in the community.

These efforts are a continuation of a high-impact partnership. Over the past year alone, Subaru’s support enabled nearly 1,000 uninsured or underinsured residents to receive medical supplies and secured over 1,100 rides to medical appointments.

The appreciation kits delivered by Subaru employees served as a gesture of thanks to a nursing staff that leadership describes as the “very best of Cooper.”

“Subaru has become one of The Cooper Foundation’s most valued community partners because they understand that improving individuals’ health extends far beyond the walls of a hospital,” Philip Norcross, chairman of The Cooper Foundation Board, said.

Erica McLeod, corporate social responsibility manager at Subaru of America, echoed that sentiment, noting that the company views its work in Camden as a responsibility of being a “good neighbor.”

Subaru’s relationship with Cooper University Health Care extends across several initiatives, including:

  • Donating emergency vehicles to Cooper EMS.
  • Supporting the Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper.
  • Partnering with the Pink Roses & Teal Magnolias event to benefit women’s cancer programs.

The collaboration remains a cornerstone of Subaru’s community outreach, focusing on the belief that strengthening the well-being of Camden residents is essential to the city’s future.
