The Valley Hospital has officially introduced cutting-edge neurological care to the region with the installation and opening of the Elekta Esprit, becoming the first health system in New Jersey to acquire the state-of-the-art technology.
Replacing the previous Elekta Icon model at Valley’s Gamma Knife Center, the new system offers highly precise, non-invasive stereotactic radiosurgery for patients dealing with complex brain tumors, vascular malformations, and neurological conditions like trigeminal neuralgia.
Unlike traditional open surgery, Gamma Knife radiosurgery requires no incisions. The Esprit system delivers hundreds of finely focused radiation beams with sub-millimeter accuracy, treating defined targets while preserving healthy surrounding tissue.
“For many patients, this means effective treatment with fewer risks, shorter recovery times, and the ability to return to daily life sooner than with traditional surgery or conventional radiotherapy,” Dr. Chad DeYoung, radiation oncologist and Co-Medical Director of The Valley Gamma Knife Center, said.
