Valley Health System has announced the appointment of Dr. Paul Yodice as its new patient safety officer. In this leadership role, Yodice will collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to advance health care quality, patient safety, and performance improvement across the health system.
Drawing on more than 30 years of experience in critical care, quality improvement, and health system leadership, Yodice aims to foster an environment where safety principles remain central to every aspect of patient care.
- Extensive Leadership Background: Previously served as Chair of Medicine for the Southern Region at Hackensack Meridian Health and Jersey Shore University Medical Center, as well as Chair of Medicine for the Central Region at JFK University Medical Center.
- Decades of Clinical Excellence: Spent 17 years at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center, holding roles including Chairman of the Department of Medicine, Director of Critical Care and ICU, and Director of Clinical Excellence and Effectiveness for RWJBarnabas Health.
- Pandemic and Quality Leadership: Led regional initiatives focused on improving patient outcomes, reducing readmissions, preventing hospital-acquired infections, and partnered with the New Jersey Department of Health to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Academic Dedication: Holds extensive teaching experience as a Professor of Medicine across multiple medical schools, earning numerous “Teacher of the Year” awards.
“My goal is to ensure that everyone understands that safety requires doing what we know is right to provide our patients with high-quality outcomes,” Yodice stated. “It’s about helping to take down the barriers to care and helping determine how we can prevent the occurrence of adverse events.”
Yodice earned his medical degree from New York Medical College and his bachelor’s degree from New York University. He completed his postgraduate training at Saint Vincent’s Hospital & Medical Center in New York and is board-certified in internal medicine, critical care medicine, and neurocritical care.
