Valley Health System recently announced the appointment of Deirdre Byrne as its new chief strategy officer and vice president of marketing, effective July 6. Byrne steps into the role as a successor to Megan Fraser, who is retiring after a distinguished 31-year tenure with the organization.
In her new capacity, Byrne will oversee Valley Health System’s strategic planning and development, government relations, marketing and communications, and community health initiatives. She will also serve as a key strategic advisor to the Board of Trustees, guiding the system’s operational goals and long-term growth.
“I am proud to step into this new role with Valley Health System,” Byrne said. “In this new chapter, I look forward to contributing to Valley’s future – one of continued growth, innovation, and a shared commitment to caring for our community.”
Byrne brings over two decades of healthcare executive experience to Valley. Most recently, she served as vice president of Network Strategy at Hackensack Meridian Health, where she led strategic initiatives for a $9 billion enterprise. Her career also includes senior leadership roles at Montefiore Health System and policy advocacy positions with the Children’s Health Fund and the National Conference of State Legislatures.
Byrne’s arrival marks the conclusion of the tenure of Megan Fraser, a foundational leader who has been with Valley since 1995. Serving as Vice President of Communications and Marketing since 2009, Fraser has been instrumental in the system’s growth and reputation.
Throughout her 31 years of service, Fraser played a pivotal role in several of the health system’s most significant milestones, including:
- Securing Valley’s initial Magnet designation for nursing excellence.
- Directing comprehensive communications strategies for the opening of the new Valley Hospital in Paramus.
- Leading internal and external communications throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Overseeing the development of impactful community health education programs and the Ridgewood Academy for Health Professions.
“We are delighted to welcome Deirdre to Valley,” Dr. Robert Brenner, president and chief executive officer of Valley Health System said. “Under her leadership, we look forward to the expansion of our medical programs and services; continued communication with our patients, community, and employees; and ongoing health education initiatives.”
Brenner also expressed the organization’s gratitude to the outgoing executive: “On behalf of Valley, we wish Megan all the best in her retirement. Thank you, Megan, for your outstanding leadership and longstanding dedication to all those we care for—our patients, their families, our trustees, physicians, staff, and the broader health system community.”
Deirdre Byrne holds a Master of Public Administration from New York University and a Bachelor of Arts from Fordham University. She is also a Fellow of Lead New Jersey.
