Jersey City is going all out for America’s 250th birthday — and doing it without spending
a dollar of taxpayer money.
Mayor James Solomon announced the city’s Fourth of July celebration will be funded
entirely through sponsorship support from Macy’s, the Exchange Place Alliance, Kean
Jersey City and the U.S. Army.
“Their support means every resident and visitor can enjoy a world-class celebration
without it costing our taxpayers a dime,” Solomon said.
The centerpiece is a day-long festival on Montgomery Street running noon to 10 p.m. on
July 4, curated by Jersey City Night Market. More than 100 vendors will offer food, drink
and artisan goods across three entertainment stages, including a family stage
programmed by the Jersey City Free Public Library. A family fun zone, live soccer
match viewing and Revolutionary War character performances round out the day.
A free four-part concert series runs July 3–5 across city parks, featuring jazz, salsa,
bluegrass and classical performances at Hamilton Park, Berry Lane Park, Riverview-
Fisk Park and Van Vorst Park.
Public transportation is strongly recommended. PATH stations at Exchange Place,
Grove Street and Newport all provide access. Driving is discouraged.
“The Exchange Place Alliance is delighted to support such an important Jersey City
celebration,” Mike DeMarco, board president of the Exchange Place Alliance, said. “It is
a great opportunity to show how special our city is, not just on July 4 but every day.”
