Nearly two years after a devastating fire destroyed its long-time storefront, the North Jersey institution Zadies Bake Shop has officially reopened its doors. The fourth-generation, family-owned kosher bakery is now operating from a new, state-of-the-art space at the Fair Lawn Promenade, a mixed-use community located at the intersection of Route 208 and Promenade Boulevard.
The grand reopening marks a triumphant return for the business, which was left in ruins following a two-alarm fire in July 2024. The fire, which originated in a neighboring restaurant, spread rapidly through the strip mall, resulting in a total loss for the bakery. Despite the hardship, the Steinberg family—owners Adam, Ann, and Ethan—continued their wholesale operations, ensuring their loyal customer base could still find their signature challahs, babkas, and meltaways in local supermarkets throughout the recovery process.
The new 3,233-square-foot facility at the Fair Lawn Promenade is designed to support the bakery’s next phase of growth. According to Adam Steinberg, the expanded space allows for a broader variety of offerings, including an enhanced dairy line and an increased selection of artisanal and rye breads.
“We are thrilled to welcome customers back to Zadies,” Adam Steinberg said. “We are grateful for the support we’ve received and look forward to serving the community with the fresh, high-quality baked goods that have always been at the heart of our business.”
The shop maintains its commitment to being entirely nut- and sesame-free, continuing the traditions established by Larry Steinberg, the bakery’s longtime leader who passed away in April 2026. The new location serves as a testament to the family’s resilience and their dedication to the community they have served since 2005.
The arrival of Zadies is being celebrated by the developers of Fair Lawn Promenade, Garden Commercial. Michael Gartenberg, director of Garden Commercial, praised the bakery as a vital addition to the complex’s vibrant mix of retail, office, and residential space.
“Zadies is a New Jersey institution, and we are proud to welcome them,” Gartenberg said. “Their longstanding reputation, loyal customer base, and deep roots in the community make them an outstanding addition to our tenant mix.”
The Fair Lawn Promenade features approximately 65,000 square feet of retail and office space, serving as a hub for both the local community and residents of the complex’s 150 luxury rental apartments. Zadies joins a diverse roster of businesses, including Starbucks, Jersey Mike’s, and the Habit Burger Grill.
