Plaza Greene breaks ground in Fair Lawn, promising new homes and retail near Radburn Station

A long-anticipated redevelopment project officially got underway this week as officials and developers gathered on June 11 to break ground on Plaza Greene, a new mixed-use community situated at the corner of Fair Lawn Avenue and Plaza Road in Fair Lawn.

The project, spearheaded by a partnership between Danbro Properties and Sterling Properties, is set to transform the former site of a commercial plaza near the historic Radburn Train Station into a vibrant residential and retail hub.

Plaza Greene is designed as an “active adult” community, specifically catering to residents 55 and older. The four-story development will feature 145 age-restricted apartment units, providing a blend of classic and contemporary architecture intended to complement the surrounding Radburn neighborhood.

The project is highly anticipated for its transit-oriented design, offering residents immediate proximity to the Radburn Train Station—a vital commuter link to New York City. Beyond housing, the development aims to revitalize the local streetscape by reintroducing a major grocery presence to the heart of Fair Lawn.

A centerpiece of the project is the arrival of a Sprouts Farmers Market on the ground floor. The addition of the natural and organic grocery store is expected to serve as a significant draw for the wider Fair Lawn community, bringing fresh food options within walking distance of the train station.

“March Construction is honored to serve as general contractor and construction manager on a project that will reconnect the train station to downtown, bring a grocery store back to the heart of Fair Lawn, and create lasting public benefit for the community,” the company said following the ceremony.

Project highlights:

  • Residential Units: 145 age-restricted apartments for residents 55+.
  • Accessibility: Includes affordable housing units, with designated accommodations for individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Retail: Nearly 24,000 square feet of retail space, anchored by a new Sprouts Farmers Market.
  • Amenities: Secure underground parking, a rooftop courtyard featuring lounge seating, grilling stations, and a media wall.
  • Community Impact: Improved pedestrian infrastructure, upgraded street lighting, and wider sidewalks to enhance the area’s walkability.

Construction is expected to take approximately 18 months, with the building serving as a focal point for transit-oriented growth in the region. As the project moves forward, local officials have advised residents to remain aware of traffic changes and posted detours in the vicinity of Fair Lawn Avenue and Plaza Road.
