Target’s ‘bullseye builds’ mobilizes 100+ volunteers to transform Camden shelter

The Aletha R. Wright Vision of Hope Center received a significant upgrade this week as more than 100 Target team members descended on the Camden facility for a day of intensive renovation and beautification.

The project, part of Target’s signature “Bullseye Builds with Community” program, was completed in partnership with Volunteers of America Delaware Valley and Jersey Cares. Throughout the day, volunteers worked to revitalize shared spaces within the shelter, including veterans’ dormitories, classroom areas, a calming room, and various resident lounges.

Beyond structural improvements, the team added personal touches to the environment by creating new indoor and outdoor murals and reorganizing donation and storage spaces to improve functionality for the staff and residents.

Investing in the community

In addition to the hands-on volunteer labor, Target presented the Vision of Hope Center with a $5,000 grant to support its ongoing mission. The center provides vital community-based support, including housing, behavioral health services, and family programs, to help residents work toward independent living.

“Everyone deserves a pride of place, and that’s what Target delivered here today,” Amanda Leese, chief operations officer of Volunteers of America Delaware Valley, said. She noted that the transformations will impact the community for years to come.

Sousan Ortega, senior vice president of Field Replenishment for Target’s Supply Chain, highlighted the personal commitment of the volunteers. “We are so proud of our more than 100 Target volunteers who showed up to serve the communities where they live and work,” Ortega said.

A nationwide commitment

The Bullseye Builds program is a national initiative that combines Target’s corporate design expertise with employee volunteerism to address specific needs identified by local communities. By strengthening “everyday places,” the program aims to make neighborhoods more connected and welcoming.

The Camden project reflects Target’s broader commitment to New Jersey. In 2025 alone, the company provided more than $9.6 million in product and cash donations across the state and saw its team members contribute over 27,000 hours of volunteer service.

“Volunteer projects like this show what’s possible when companies partner with nonprofits and invest their time and talent in the community,” Michelle Schmitz, corporate relations manager at Jersey Cares said.
