Walmart is doubling down on its Garden State footprint, announcing plans to remodel 12 stores across New Jersey this year. The reinvestment is part of a broader strategy to integrate high-tech digital shopping with upgraded physical storefronts, aiming to offer delivery in as little as one hour to the majority of its New Jersey customer base.
The 2026 initiative builds on a massive five-year investment totaling more than $173 million in statewide store upgrades. This latest phase will focus on modernizing layouts, expanding healthy food sections, and introducing “on-trend” brands like Oura, De’Longhi, and Jessica Simpson to the sales floor.
The remodeled locations will feature an enhanced “store-based app experience,” allowing New Jersey shoppers to navigate aisles via their phones and book appointments at Auto Care Centers seamlessly.
Significant upgrades are also slated for the retailer’s health and wellness segments:
- Pharmacy Upgrades: Transformed pharmacies will offer expanded clinical services and vaccines. Walmart+ members will now have access to free pharmacy delivery, which notably includes GLP-1 medications.
- Vision Centers: Redesigned for greater privacy, the centers will feature designer frames from Nike, Calvin Klein, and DKNY, alongside complimentary adjustments and cleanings.
“Our stores have long been part of communities across New Jersey, and we’re excited to keep investing in their future,” said Annie Walker, Senior Vice President of the East Business Unit at Walmart. “We’re proud of our legacy here and look forward to helping families save money and time.”
Beyond the retail floor, Walmart’s presence continues to be a major driver of the state’s economy and social safety net. Over the past five years, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation have donated more than $11 million to New Jersey nonprofits. This includes the distribution of over 5 million pounds of food to local food banks.
The company also recently launched its “Fight Hunger, Spark Change” campaign, ensuring that qualifying purchases at New Jersey locations translate into resources for food-insecure families within those specific local communities.
