For the third consecutive year, Larken Associates partnered with the nonprofit America’s Grow-a-Row for its annual community service outing, harvesting a massive quantity of fresh produce destined for families facing food insecurity.
Twenty-five volunteers from the Larken Associates team helped harvest approximately 62,000 pounds of potatoes and tomatoes, which equates to about 247,000 servings for individuals and families in need across the United States.
The volunteer effort is a signature part of the firm’s Larken Cares initiative. Team members expressed a strong connection to the hands-on nature of the work, knowing the direct impact of their labor.
“Volunteering with America’s Grow-a-Row has been a very meaningful experience over the last three years, and it allows us to give back to our community in a very hands-on way,” Jodi Prentiss, Human Resources generalist at Larken Associates said. “Knowing that the fruits and vegetables we harvest go directly to the food banks and families in need fills me with a sense of purpose and further connection to the communities we’re part of.”
Since its founding in 2002, America’s Grow-a-Row has dedicated itself to combating food insecurity by growing, gleaning, and providing fresh produce. The organization has donated over 100 million servings of farm-fresh fruits and vegetables to feeding organizations nationwide, growing more than 20 nutrient-rich varieties, including potatoes, corn, peppers, and more.
Following the Grow-a-Row outing, Larken Associates will continue its community efforts by preparing for its annual mission trip to Guatemala in support of From Houses to Homes, an organization focused on providing sustainable housing, education, and healthcare to impoverished Indigenous families.
