United was most on-time airline in NYC region over holiday season

In case you’re keeping score – and when it comes to airlines, who isn’t – United Airlines was the most on-time airline in the New York/New Jersey region in the month of December.

The score is judged by a number of factors, including airport congestion and traffic. United, which had the lowest cancel rate in the region, carried more than 1.5 million passengers and safely handled more than 6 million bags.

Jon Gooda, VP of Airport Operations for United Airlines at Newark Liberty International Airport, obviously was thrilled. He noted the efforts in December mirrored those that began during the always-busy Thanksgiving week.

“November and December are two of our busiest travel seasons at United, especially at Newark, and we’re proud to have delivered the most on‑time operation in the NY/NJ region for both Thanksgiving and the December holidays,” he said.

“Our team is energized for what’s ahead in 2026 and committed to continuing to deliver an excellent experience for our customers.”

The performance record can be viewed as an added extra to a most unique marketing move by United. It has been placing real-time travel estimates to Newark (and JFK) on New York City taxis, showing it’s faster to get to Newark. As it turns out, you’re more likely to get an on-time flight, too.
