Tanenbaum Keale expands litigation bench with arrival of Partner Thomas Wester

Tanenbaum Keale LLP, the boutique litigation firm known for its defense of global corporations, announced the addition of veteran insurance litigator Thomas Wester as partner. The move marks the latest step in a sustained growth phase for the firm as it scales its presence in the Newark and New York markets.

Wester joins the firm from Goldberg Segalla, bringing nearly 15 years of experience in the investigation and litigation of high-stakes insurance matters. His practice centers on defending major insurers against complex claims involving commercial disputes, construction defects, transportation accidents, and significant property damage.

The appointment follows a major recruitment drive in January 2026, during which Tanenbaum Keale added 10 attorneys—including five litigation partners—to bolster its trial capabilities. Wester’s expertise as special coverage counsel adds a specialized layer to the firm’s existing strengths in product liability and toxic torts.

“Thomas’s profile as a respected insurance practitioner aligns perfectly with our momentum,” James Keale, chair of Tanenbaum Keale said. “We are focused on deliberate, value-driven growth that allows us to address the full spectrum of our clients’ legal needs, from risk assessment to final verdict.”

Wester’s career is defined by successfully navigating the tripartite relationship between insurers, insureds, and defense counsel across New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

  • Specialty Areas: Trucking and transportation accidents, premises liability, and first-party property damage.
  • Clerkship: Served as a law clerk for the Hon. Thomas R. Vena, J.S.C., in the Superior Court of New Jersey.
  • Education: Graduate of Fordham University (Undergraduate) and Seton Hall University School of Law (J.D.).
  • Recognition: Consistently recognized by Best Lawyers in America for Insurance Law and Litigation.

The firm’s expansion comes as it recommits to its headquarters at 3 Gateway Center in Newark, where it recently renewed a 27,000-square-foot lease. This physical footprint supports a rapidly growing team that now includes a deep bench of veteran first-chair trial lawyers.
