A new housing initiative designed specifically to support disabled veterans in Northern New Jersey is set to open in Montvale on March 24.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. that day at 26 N Kinderkamack Road. The New Jersey Veterans SOS Stakeholders Group (NJSOSVETS), in partnership with local nonprofit and government organizations, announced it on Tuesday.
The development includes six affordable housing units created exclusively for disabled veteran households. Each apartment was designed with accessibility and comfort in mind.
Nouvelle LLC, with key participation from the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, the New Jersey Veterans SOS Stakeholders Group, and Catholic Charities Diocese of Paterson, led the initiative.
The community will provide shelter and establish a welcoming and supportive setting that contributes to long-term quality of life.
Each unit is fully furnished, ensuring incoming residents can transition into their new homes without the financial and logistical burden of securing essential household items, according to a release.
Ashley Furniture will supply furniture and home essentials through a grant obtained by NJSOSVETS with support from New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker.
Other project partners included the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, Cpl. Jedh C. Barker Memorial American Legion Post 153, Welcome Home Vets of New Jersey, Homes for Veterans, and the Elks Veterans Service Program.
In early November, the Township of Middletown completed a new, purpose-built veterans housing facility – the 22,000-square-foot Middletown Veterans Housing development, designed by DMR Architects, in Campbell’s Junction. It offers 12 residential units of much-needed affordable housing for eligible veterans in one of New Jersey’s communities with the highest veteran populations.
