Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer bolsters ADR practice with addition of former Presiding Judge Robert Mega

Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer, P.A. announced on Monday that the Hon. Robert J. Mega, P.J. Ch. (Ret.) has joined the firm as a member of its Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) team.

The move marks a significant expansion for the firm’s mediation and arbitration capabilities, bringing over two decades of judicial expertise to private practice. Mega will focus on providing mediation, arbitration, and special discovery adjudication services.

Mega joins Wilentz following a 20-year tenure on the New Jersey Superior Court bench. Most recently, from 2020 to 2026, he served as the Presiding Judge of the Chancery Division, General Equity and Probate.

His judicial career was characterized by high-level leadership and versatility, having served in nearly every major division of the court:

  • Chancery Division: Oversaw complex equity, probate, and foreclosure matters.

  • Complex Business Litigation: Presided over high-stakes corporate disputes.

  • Criminal Division: Served as Presiding Judge.

  • Family & Civil Divisions: Managed a broad array of trial assignments.

In addition to his courtroom duties, Judge Mega was a key figure in shaping New Jersey’s judicial policy. He served on several influential committees, including the Judiciary Technology Advisory Committee (ITAC) and the Supreme Court Advisory Committee on Public Access to Court and Administrative Records, helping to modernize court operations and ensure transparency.

Before his elevation to the bench, Judge Mega built a robust foundation in private practice and public service. He specialized in medical malpractice, personal injury, and contract law, while also serving as a municipal attorney for several New Jersey townships, including Clark, Linden, Fanwood and Green Brook.

“Judge Mega brings exceptional experience and perspective to our ADR team,” Angelo Cifaldi, president and managing director of Wilentz said. “His leadership on the bench and his broad background across civil, criminal, family, and complex business matters will be an invaluable resource to clients seeking efficient resolution of their disputes.”

Founded in 1919 by David T. Wilentz, the firm has been at the forefront of landmark New Jersey legal cases for over a century. Headquartered in Woodbridge, the firm maintains a significant presence with offices in Perth Amboy, Red Bank, New York City, and Philadelphia.
