NYNJ Host Committee names Eli Manning, Midge Purce and Josh Hart as World Cup Ambassadors

The New York New Jersey Host Committee has drafted a powerhouse lineup of local icons to serve as official ambassadors for the world’s largest sporting event.

The committee announced that two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning, Gotham FC and USWNT star Midge Purce, and New York Knicks standout Josh Hart will represent the region on the global stage. The trio will be tasked with welcoming the world to the NYNJ region and championing the tournament’s community-driven mission.

The selection of Manning, Purce and Hart brings together a unique blend of local championship history and diverse athletic appeal. As official ambassadors, they will lend their visibility and cultural influence to help shape the region’s fan engagement and legacy programming.

  • Eli Manning: The Giants legend, who spent his entire career at the stadium that will host the World Cup Final, noted the significance of the moment. “I know what it’s like to play on the biggest stage in American sports,” Manning said. “To host the world for the FIFA World Cup… is an incredible honor.”
  • Midge Purce: A two-time NWSL champion with NJ-based Gotham FC, Purce emphasized the grassroots impact. “It’s an opportunity to grow the game by inspiring the next generation, and making sure people feel like they’re part of it, whether they’re in the stadium or playing in their own neighborhood.”
  • Josh Hart: Known for his high-energy play with the Knicks and his personal passion for soccer, Hart highlighted the local atmosphere. “When you combine that global fandom with what’s already the best sports region in the world, it’s going to be something special.”

The Host Committee and its new ambassadors are focusing heavily on inclusivity. A core part of their role will involve supporting initiatives for underserved youth, ensuring that the tournament’s energy extends beyond the gates of MetLife Stadium (referred to as New York New Jersey Stadium for the event) and into local parks and community centers.

“Eli, Midge, and Josh represent the very best of our region,” Alex Lasry, CEO of the FIFA World Cup 2026™ NYNJ Host Committee said. “They will play an important role in helping us deliver a World Cup experience that is inclusive, impactful, and truly reflective of New York and New Jersey.”

New York New Jersey is set to be the crown jewel of the 2026 tournament. The region will host eight matches in total, culminating in the World Cup Final on July 19, 2026.

The committee expects to announce additional ambassadors in the coming months, building a broad coalition of leaders to showcase the region’s one-of-a-kind energy to billions of viewers worldwide.
