50 days out: More on World Cup (train and match) tickets

Don’t have a seat? FIFA is putting last batch on sale this morning

The start of the FIFA 2026 World Cup is just 50 days away — which means folks only have a few more weeks to offer false outrage about the cost of taking NJ Transit to the event.

“To the event” is the key phrase here.

Yes, those tickets are $150 dollars (a price needed to pay for extra security and logistics). A price we argue out-of-towners should pay.

Kris Kolluri

What NJ Transit CEO Kris Kolluri wants to make clear is this: Tickets for NJ Transit trips to other locations on match days (say Summit to Hoboken or Red Bank to Newark-Penn) will stay the same price.

“The $150 fare only applies to those going to MetLife Stadium,” he told BINJE.

Kolluri then added this: NJ Transit tickets to any Fan Festival events will be the regular fare.

Don’t have a match ticket?

There actually are still some possibilities.

Believe it or not, the last allotment of “regularly priced” seats will be available this morning at 11 a.m. (Eastern) on FIFA’s “last-minute sales” page.

The tickets will be released on a first-come first-serve basis.

To enter the “last-minute sales” page on FIFA’s website, fans must create a FIFA account first.

To be sure, these seats will be available all around the world. So, good luck getting into the queue (think Taylor Swift seats on an exponentially greater scale).

If you miss out, there are other secondary market options. And if you’re concerned those are risky, Costco is teaming with outside vendors selling luxury packages that include match tickets.

Before you buy: Know these three things:

  • Costco is not selling face-value seats;
  • These packages are incredibly pricey: Think thousands and tens of thousands of dollars;
  • These packages do not include NJ Transit tickets to MetLife (just wanted to see if you read until the end).

That’s the latest, 50 days from the opening match in Mexico City on June 11.

The first match of eight at MetLife Stadium is June 13. The first match in Philly is June 14.

The final is July 19.
