The Valley Center for Digestive Health has announced the launch of its comprehensive Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Program, a multidisciplinary initiative designed to provide long-term remission and a higher quality of life for North Jersey residents living with chronic digestive disorders.
The program specifically targets Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis—autoimmune conditions that can cause debilitating gastrointestinal issues and systemic complications affecting the joints, eye and skin.
Because IBD is a chronic, systemic condition, specialized and consistent care is essential to preventing irreversible damage. The new program at Valley is tailored for patients already diagnosed with IBD who are seeking a proactive, “whole-person” approach to their medical care.
“Inflammatory bowel disease can negatively impact patients’ lives, which is why there is a need for proper medical therapy,” Dr. Michael Herman, director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Program at The Valley Center for Digestive Health. “It is a lifelong condition that requires proactive management. It is important to be a part of a program like this to be able to provide the necessary resources for patients to be adequately treated.”
The program moves beyond traditional symptom management by integrating medical, surgical, and lifestyle support. Key features of the program include:
- Advanced Monitoring: Utilizing state-of-the-art diagnostic tools for routine surveillance to prevent flares and complications.
- Integrative Therapies: Access to registered dietitians, behavioral health support, and integrative medicine to manage the nutritional and emotional toll of the disease.
- Preventive Health: A focus on vaccination, infection prevention, and long-term care planning.
- Surgical Expertise: Coordination with surgical specialists for cases where medical therapy alone is insufficient.
Recognizing that education is a powerful tool in disease management, Valley’s IBD Program has partnered with the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation. This partnership provides patients with a direct link to support groups, community resources, and the latest research in the field.
“Our goal is to offer high-level, individualized IBD care that you can get close to home,” added Dr. Herman.
The IBD team is now seeing patients at 140 East Ridgewood Avenue in Paramus.
