The Far Hills Race Meeting Association (FHRMA) announced a major $100,000 charitable commitment to Atlantic Health Goryeb Children’s Hospital on Wednesday.
The funds were raised during the 7th annual Flurry at Moorland Farm, a prominent sporting clays invitational shooting competition hosted each spring by the association. The multi-thousand-dollar donation will explicitly expand the hospital’s Pediatric Patient Support Fund, which alleviates sudden, non-medical financial burdens for families navigating a child’s serious illness or hospitalization.
In recognition of the association’s long-standing philanthropy, the Foundation for Morristown Medical Center announced it has officially renamed the resource the Far Hills Race Meeting Association Pediatric Patient Support Fund.
When a child faces a critical illness, families often experience an immediate drop in household income alongside a surge of unexpected costs. The newly renamed fund steps in to close these financial gaps quickly, offering targeted assistance for essential, everyday expenses that insurance policies do not cover. This includes:
- Emergency rent and utility payments to prevent housing instability.
- Covered transportation and fuel costs to ensure reliable travel to medical appointments.
- Out-of-pocket medications and nutritional needs.
- General, urgent household stressors that threaten family stability during a medical crisis.
“At Atlantic Health Goryeb Children’s Hospital, we are committed to caring for the whole child, as well as the whole family,” Dr. Beth Natt, chair of Pediatrics for Goryeb Children’s Hospital said. “The ongoing generosity of the Far Hills Race Meeting Association helps ensure that families can focus on their child’s healing, rather than the financial challenges that often accompany serious illness.”
Initially launched in 2020 as a modest gathering of family and friends, the Flurry at Moorland Farm has grown into a premiere regional sporting clays tournament. The 7th annual event, which took place on May 7, drew 250 competitive shooters and secured premier corporate title sponsorships from Open Road Auto Group, VOLLERS, Inc., Whiting-Turner, TJS Automotive, Unity Bank, and the Dallas Group.
To date, the shooting event alone has raised more than $250,000. Beyond Goryeb Children’s Hospital, its regular beneficiaries include RWJUnited Hospital Somerset’s Oncology Patient Assistance Fund, the Far Hills-Bedminster Fire Department, and the Far Hills-Bedminster First Aid Squad.
“Giving back is our legacy, and after more than a century, it still drives everything we do,” Ron Kennedy, chairman of the Far Hills Race Meeting Association said. “This $100,000 commitment will ensure families receiving care at Atlantic Health Goryeb Children’s Hospital can focus on their child’s recovery, not the financial strain that can come with it.”
The association’s flagship event, the historic Far Hills Race Meeting, is a cornerstone of the New Jersey social and sporting calendar. Celebrating over a century of operation, the National Steeplechase Association-sanctioned event offers the largest steeplechase purses in the United States and draws thousands of spectators annually to Moorland Farm. Over its 105-year history, the association has raised more than $22 million to support healthcare networks throughout the region.
The 105th running of the prestigious Far Hills Race Meeting is scheduled to take place later this autumn on Oct. 17, featuring pari-mutuel wagering in partnership with Monmouth Park and national broadcasting via Fox Sports.
