Four Ocean County high school seniors awarded Walters scholarships

Continuing a multi-decade philanthropic tradition, local real estate developer Walters has announced the recipients of its annual college scholarship program, presenting $8,000 in collective funding to four standout graduating high school seniors across Ocean County.

The annual merit program splits its awards evenly each year between two neighboring school districts, honoring academic achievement at both Southern Regional High School and Barnegat High School.

The funds are intended to offset tuition and educational expenses as the students transition into higher education. This year’s selected recipients include:

  • Southern Regional High School: Luke Maggion and Jacob King
  • Barnegat High School: Joseph Bacskai and Devin Connors

The program holds a distinct personal connection for the development firm’s leadership. It was originally established by Ed Walters Jr. to honor the memory of his father, Edward M. Walters Sr. Furthermore, Walters Jr. is himself an Ocean County native and a proud alumnus of Southern Regional High School.

“It’s rewarding to recognize these exceptional high school seniors as they pursue their future goals,” Ed Walters Jr., founder and partner at Walters, said. “Giving back through education has always been a meaningful part of our commitment to the community.”

With the addition of the Class of 2026 cohort, the Walters scholarship platform has officially surpassed a major milestone, awarding 51 individual scholarships totaling more than $100,000 to Ocean County students since its inception.

The academic grant initiative aligns with the developer’s broader corporate social responsibility platform. Over the years, the Barnegat-based residential and commercial builder has maintained a heavy philanthropic presence throughout South Jersey.

The firm routinely provides financial, volunteer, and logistical backing to regional disaster relief networks and community anchors, including the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, Habitat for Humanity, the Barnegat Volunteer Fire Company, and local youth athletics leagues like the Barnegat and Stafford Girls Softball Leagues.
