Columbia Bank announced the appointment of Robert Maichin as first senior vice president and head of commercial banking for New York.
In his new role, Maichin will spearhead Commercial & Industrial (C&I) and Middle Market Lending across Columbia Bank’s expanding New York footprint. This includes operations in Staten Island and Brooklyn, which integrate into the bank’s network through its pending acquisition of Northfield Bank. He will focus on accelerating loan growth, building specialized lending teams, and delivering comprehensive financial solutions to businesses throughout the region.
Maichin brings more than 35 years of commercial banking experience to Columbia Bank. Throughout his career, he has held senior leadership positions at major financial institutions including Dime Commercial Bank, Bank Leumi USA, J.P. Morgan Chase, and Wells Fargo, successfully launching specialized lending verticals and building high-performing middle-market teams across the New York metropolitan area.
“Robert’s addition reflects our continued investment in expanding Columbia Bank’s commercial lending presence and delivering the relationship-driven service that has long defined our approach,” Thomas Kemly, president and CEO of Columbia Bank, said. “His deep experience and strong connections in the New York market will help us expand our reach, strengthen client relationships, and support the continued growth of businesses across the region.”
Maichin earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the State University of New York at Oswego. Outside of his professional career, he remains active in community initiatives, having worked with Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York’s Accountants & Bankers Committee, Project Sunshine, and the Long Island City Partnership.
