In alignment with Gov. Mikie Sherrill’s Rapid Action Plan, NJ TRANSIT has rolled out a major digital overhaul designed to streamline the commuter experience. Centered on a modernized website and a brand-new AI chatbot named “Navvie,” the rollout aims to make trip planning and passenger information more intuitive, accessible, and transparent.
Key highlights of the digital upgrade
- A Redesigned Website (
njtransit.com): Launched on Sept. 1, the updated site features a simplified, mobile-responsive layout optimized for fast access to frequently used features. It places a stronger emphasis on prominent service alerts, advisory details, and clearer schedules for rail, bus, and light rail networks. - Meet “Navvie,” the 24/7 AI Chatbot: Operating around the clock directly on the website, Navvie provides a conversational assistant for customers seeking trip planning, schedule guidance, transfer info, and real-time alerts without needing to click through multiple pages. NJ TRANSIT plans to evaluate the pilot for a potential integration into the mobile app by the end of 2026.
- Enhanced Accessibility Compliance: The website redesign incorporates increased text clarity and contrast, optimized screen-reader navigation, and full compliance with updated Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
- Upcoming Mobile App Updates (Sept. 9): Building on feedback from earlier app releases, upcoming updates will introduce a unified Departures & Schedules view for trains, buses, and light rails, improved active service alert access, and enhanced nearby-station and event-ticketing functionalities. A subsequent September release will add a Home Screen Favorites and Breaking News module.
“Our redesigned website puts customers first while Navvie, our first digital assistant, gives customers a smarter, more convenient way to plan their trips and get travel information,” NJ TRANSIT President and CEO Kris Kolluri, said. “These improvements reflect our commitment, and Governor Sherrill’s commitment, to deliver a modern, intuitive transit experience for all New Jerseyans.”
