The autism community and supporters from across the region are gearing up for the 2026 Northern New Jersey Empower Walk & 5K Run, taking place this Sept. 19 at the Meadowlands Racetrack in East Rutherford.
Hosted annually by Autism Speaks, the community-driven event combines a competitive 5K run with a traditional walk to raise vital funds for research, advocacy, and family support services. Organizers emphasize that contributions directly aid initiatives designed to “Redefine Possible” for autistic individuals and their loved ones.
“Every person who joins us has the opportunity to make a difference,” Kristen Apen, Autism Speaks New Jersey executive director, said. “Whether you run the 5K, walk with family and friends or support someone with a donation, you’re helping us Redefine Possible for autistic people and their families while connecting our community with resources and support when they need it.”
