Think2Drink: A veteran’s start-up business and a thirst for knowledge

Connolly has found a way to use a beverage as an educational tool

What year did the U.S. gain independence? Which animal is the largest land mammal?

For Think2drink Interactive Packaging CEO Sam Connolly, learning is half the fun. The other half? A nice pouch of juice.

Set up at the Veterans Business Summit, the Think2Drink stand stood out for its giant, vibrant sign boasting that ‘learning has never tasted so good!’ On the table beneath, a large model juice box with not one, but two places to punch the straw.

The idea is simple: two openings and two answers. Users read the question, think it over, and punch the straw in answer A or B. If they’re right? It’s juice time. If not? No juice. They’ll have to try again.

The idea came to Connolly after his time in the service. Coming back from overseas, Connolly was working as a special education substitute when he noticed something during the kids’ break time.

“They played with their food while they were eating and they were learning from each other. It was a game, and if you win, then you get some of the others’ treats. And then the idea came to me, you know, what if you could have fun with food?” He said.

Connolly got to work on a prototype.

“I sat there and I got a corrugated piece of cardboard and I used the corrugated thing and pushed a straw through it and then the idea just evolved,” he said.

Four years and three patents later, Think2Drink is trying to make its way back into schools.

“We are trying to get contracts in schools and with juice companies,” he said. “We are not trying to produce juice.”
