Nearly 200 community members, alumni, and local leaders gathered on the links at Renault Winery and Resort on Sept. 17 for the Stockton University Foundation’s annual Golf Classic, successfully raising $100,000 to support student scholarships and academic programs.
Proceeds from the event directly benefit the Stockton Fund, which eliminates financial barriers and expands access to essential experiential learning opportunities, such as on- and off-campus internships.
Tournament highlights
- On-Course Competitions: Golfers of all skill levels competed in challenges including Men’s and Women’s Closest to the Pin, Men’s and Women’s Longest Drive, Tournament Champion, and a $10,000 Hole-in-One Challenge.
- Student Support: Members of the Stockton Women’s Golf team hosted a putting contest, with proceeds directly funding new equipment and team apparel.
- Off-Course Activities: Participants also took part in a 50/50 raffle and a Tito’s Spirit Grab.
Community and alumni impact
“The golfers and volunteers who unite to support this event reflect our community’s commitment to Stockton students,” Dan Nugent, Stockton’s vice president for University Advancement and executive director of the Stockton Foundation, said. “Their philanthropy empowers our Ospreys to soar higher by eliminating the barriers many students face today.”
Alumna Calli Votta ’21, MSW ’23, echoed that sentiment, noting the power of the event to unite the campus network. “Being able to participate in an event that not only brings alumni and community members together, but also creates opportunities and support for current students, made the day especially meaningful,” she said.
Each year, the Stockton Foundation awards more than $1 million in scholarships and resources to support student success. The annual tournament was made possible by major community sponsors, including the Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters, IBEW Local 351, AtlantiCare, Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, Pennoni, and Glenn Insurance Inc.
