Parsippany-based Langan Engineering & Environmental Services selected Ryan Linthicum as the firm’s next Chief Executive Officer, effective Jan. 1, 2027.
Linthicum will become only the third CEO in the engineering and environmental consulting powerhouse’s 56-year history. He succeeds current CEO David Gockel, who led a two-year succession planning process with the Langan Board of Managers. Gockel, who has served as CEO since 2004, will remain with the firm as Executive Chair.
Linthicum began his career at Langan 30 years ago as a staff engineer in the firm’s Parsippany headquarters. Over three decades, he rose through the ranks to Managing Principal, joining the firm’s Executive Committee and Board of Managers.
In his current role, Linthicum oversees Langan’s digital solutions practice and technology strategy, spearheading the firm’s artificial intelligence (AI) investments and service integration across nationwide operations.
Throughout his tenure, Linthicum played a central role in scaling the firm’s geographic footprint and market reach:
-
Federal Practice: Established Langan’s entry into the federal market, leading work with the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations to support design and redevelopment for nearly 200 U.S. embassies and consulates globally.
-
Geographic Expansion: Opened and built out three key regional offices in Washington, D.C., Arlington, and Richmond, Virginia.
-
Multi-Sector Leadership: Led major teams across commercial, mixed-use, life sciences, aviation, sports, higher education, and resort market sectors.
“Ryan Linthicum has the full support of our executive team to lead Langan as we continue our journey as a national powerhouse and magnet for talent,” Gockel said. “I have enormous respect for Ryan as a leader and as a person. He has the judgment, integrity, energy, and commitment to our employees that will guarantee Langan’s continued success.”
Linthicum expressed enthusiasm for taking the helm at a pivotal time for the engineering and environmental consulting industry.
“I am honored and excited to assume the responsibility of becoming the third CEO in Langan history,” Linthicum said. “Under my leadership, we will continue to deliver premier consulting services to our clients on projects that define and enhance how we live and work, and that contribute to communities around the world.”
