Yang, Platkin headline OverdriveAI Summit next week

Daylong event in Newark by TechUnited:NJ swaps panels for debates on AI – and will include release of report by Princeton researcher on AI’s impact on New Jersey

The second annual OverdriveAI Summit next week won’t have panels. It will have arguments.

Will AI take our jobs? Who pays for the power it needs? Should it be in our classrooms?

On Nov. 10, TechUnited:NJ will put leaders on opposite sides of those questions face to face at the Newark Museum of Art. The audience will judge who makes the better case.

Aaron Price, CEO of TechUnited:NJ, said that’s the whole idea.

“No panels, no polite nodding; OverdriveAI puts leaders on opposite sides of AI’s biggest questions — jobs, power, classrooms — and lets the room decide who’s right,” he said.

About 500 founders, executives, investors, university leaders, elected officials and community members are expected. (Registration is available here)

  • Andrew Yang, the entrepreneur and former presidential candidate, headlines a main-stage lineup that includes:
  • Matthew Platkin, former New Jersey Attorney General;
  • Brian Distelburger, co-founder of Yext and Windmill;
  • Sabrina Fields of the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs, who will unveil a new report on AI’s impact on New Jersey;
  • Amos Winbush III, Founder and CEO of bckrs.ai;
  • Michael Chad Hoeppner, founder of GK Training and author of “Don’t Say Um”;
  • Cristina DiGiacomo, an AI philosopher, who will close the day.

The main-stage conversations run from 1-4 p.m. and will tackle AI’s impact on jobs, energy and data centers, education and creativity.

The day starts at 10 a.m., when the summit offers hands-on AI training: an invitation-only session for executives and a free community training, open to all experience levels, at EqualSpace. At lunch, Audible, the summit’s lead sponsor, will treat attendees to meals at local Newark restaurants.

The afternoon also includes live startup demos, followed by a reception from 4-5:30 p.m. celebrating TechUnited:NJ’s 30th anniversary. The nonprofit has championed entrepreneurship and innovation in New Jersey since 1996.

The night wraps up a short walk away at Newark Culture Club, where Pitch Roast Live runs from 6-8 p.m.
