Following an extensive national search, the governing boards of the New Jersey League of Conservation Voters (New Jersey LCV) and the New Jersey LCV Education Fund announced today the appointment of Meishka Mitchell as the organization’s new Executive Director and CEO.
Mitchell will officially take the helm of the statewide environmental organization on Dec. 1, succeeding interim Executive Director Allison McLeod, who will return to her role on the senior leadership team.
A Camden native and licensed city planner, Mitchell brings more than 20 years of experience advancing environmental policy, equity, and climate resilience across New Jersey and nationally. Most recently, she served as CEO of Emerald Cities Collaborative, a national organization focused on clean energy, climate action, and economic opportunity, where she expanded national partnerships and mobilized major philanthropic investments for green workforce development and environmental justice.
Before her national leadership role at Emerald Cities Collaborative, Mitchell spent years directing urban planning and environmental initiatives in South Jersey as Vice President of Camden Community Partnership. During her tenure, she spearheaded efforts that secured over $50 million in public, private, and philanthropic investment for climate resilience and community development in Camden.
Among her landmark projects was leading the conversion of a former landfill into the 62-acre Cramer Hill Waterfront Park, an initiative that restored seven acres of tidal freshwater wetlands along the Delaware River shoreline.
