Baye Adofo-Wilson, the new owner of the New York Cosmos, and members of the World Cup host committees of New York/New Jersey and Philadelphia will participate in a Countdown to the World Cup event Sunday in Atlantic City.
The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Stockton University’s campus in Atlantic City. It is latest effort in the ongoing Countdown to the World Cup initiative — a grassroots campaign that began in 2024 at American Dream to educate and connect small businesses in anticipation of the $3-4 billion in projected economic impact from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
This free, public event will feature Adofo-Wilson discussing the revival and future of the Cosmos, including the club’s new mission to discover and nurture homegrown soccer talent across New Jersey. With the first Cosmos matches scheduled for March 2026 at Hinchliffe Stadium in Paterson, the Cosmos’ return is perfectly timed to energize local communities and contribute to the broader soccer movement as a lead up to the World Cup in June 2026.
Adofo-Wilson will answer questions from moderator Tom Bergeron, the editor of BINJE, as well as take questions from the audience.
“I’m excited to talk about the new Cosmos and engage with fans, entrepreneurs, and soccer supporters about what’s ahead,” Adofo-Wilson said. “This is more than just bringing a team back — it’s about building something new, from the ground up.”
After that, members of the host committees in Philadelphia and New York/New Jersey will participate in a second panel and take questions.
Admission is free, but registration is required.
