Organizers of “A Racquet at the Rock,” the first professional tennis matches in the history of the Prudential Center, knew they had a strong lineup of stars when the event was announced last week.
When presale tickets go on sale at noon Monday for the Dec. 7 event, those stars will be shining a little bit brighter.
Carlos Alcaraz, who will meet Frances Tiafoe in the men’s match, is now the No. 1-ranked player in the world, thanks to his four-set victory in the U.S. Open on Sunday afternoon.
Amanda Anisimova, who will meet Emma Raducanu in the women’s match, will move into the Top 5 of the world rankings after she reached the U.S. Open women’s final before falling to Aryna Sabalenka on Saturday night.
Tickets are available for purchase at Ticketmaster.com, Prucenter.com and Prudential Center’s box office. Following the presale, they will be available to the general public beginning at noon Wednesday.
The event will feature two best-of-three-set matches, with a 10-point tiebreaker to be used if a third set is necessary.
Dylan Wanagiel, vice president, sports properties and special events at Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment and Prudential Center, called the inaugural “A Racquet at the Rock” a unique exhibition celebrating the world’s best tennis players competing in New Jersey.
“It is a tremendous honor for our company, in partnership with Unified Events, to announce this debut of elite professional tennis at Prudential Center,” he said. “While our venue has a long history of hosting marquee events, we have not yet seen the likes of ‘A Racquet at the Rock,’ featuring some of the best tennis players from all across the world.
“This is a significant milestone for our team and will continue to showcase Newark as a leading sports and entertainment destination.”
The event, which will pay homage to New Jersey’s own tennis history (more details to come) is being presented with Unified Events.
