Gov. Phil Murphy, first lady Tammy Murphy, Choose New Jersey CEO Wes Mathews and NJ EDA CEO Tim Sullivan headline a delegation of nearly four dozen on a six-day economic mission trip to India.
The group, which arrived in India Thursday night (India is 9.5 hours ahead of New Jersey) will have meetings from Sept. 19-24 in Delhi, Kochi, Bengaluru and Mumbai.
The group will return to New Jersey on Sept. 25.
It is the second mission trip to India for Murphy, who became the first sitting New Jersey governor to visit India in 2019.
Lt. Gov. Tahesha Way also has made a trip. And Choose New Jersey has made a number of trips on its own.
Mathews said this week’s effort should be viewed in total.
“Gov. Murphy made history in 2019 as the first sitting New Jersey governor to visit India, and we have built on that milestone in very meaningful ways across our state,” he said. “There is no single country that means as much for New Jersey as India.”
The efforts in India were apparent in New Jersey earlier this month, when three Indian pharma companies announced expansions of some kind in the state.
Mathews said this trip aims to bring more of these results.
“We look forward to continuing this momentum and to showcasing New Jersey as a premier destination for investment and collaboration,” he said. “Our goal is to ensure this mission leaves a lasting foundation for continued growth between New Jersey and India.”
