Four New Jersey-based utility companies recently earned recognition for being among the “Most Trusted Brands” in 2025 in a list composed by Escalent.
The four NJ companies to make the list include:
- PSE&G
- South Jersey Gas
- New Jersey Natural Gas
- Elizabethtown Gas
In a list with 40 companies receiving the recognition, Escalent measured the following qualities to measure brand trust: Customer focus, community support, communications effectiveness, reliable quality, environmental dedication and company reputation.
And with the utility industry increasing their efforts in customer communication, those listed in the Most Trusted Brands have gone even further.
The Communications Intensity Index, which measures per-customer communication spending, is 17% higher than the industry average at these utilities, fueled by greater customer recall of distinct utility messages delivered across multiple channels.
Further showing their value, the companies to receive the recognition, had customers rating them 7% above average for offering reasonable rates for the services they provide.
Suzanne Haggerty, director of syndicated research for Escalent, spoke of the benefits.
“Value encompasses improved reliability, opportunities for savings, better customer service, ease of doing business, and the utility’s active role in supporting the community — delivering a broader sense of fairness and value that customers recognize and appreciate,” she said.
South Jersey Industries, the parent company of South Jersey Gas and Elizabethtown Gas, was thrilled with the recognition.
SJI SVP Steven Cocchi spoke on how business means more than just the service they provide.
“The obligation to our customers extends far beyond the delivery of safe, reliable, and affordable natural gas, and we are proud of this recognition,” he said.
Escalent conducted surveys among 61,086 residential electric, natural gas and combination utility customers of the 148 largest US utility companies (based on residential customer counts).
The Brand Trust index score is a composite based upon consumer ratings across six aforementioned factors.
