New Jersey American Water has officially finalized its acquisition of Gordon’s Corner Water Company, expanding its regional footprint by approximately 15,300 water customer connections across Monmouth County.
The transaction, which follows approval from the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities granted on July 15, integrates the former utility’s infrastructure into New Jersey American Water’s Coastal Operating Region service area. The move also welcomes 20 former Gordon’s Corner employees to the New Jersey American Water team to maintain local operational continuity.
The strategic acquisition is designed to reinforce water supply resilience and provide critical system redundancy in an area prone to heightened demand during peak tourism and irrigation months. To support these goals, New Jersey American Water has committed to investing more than $25 million in infrastructure upgrades over the next five years.
“This acquisition strengthens water service reliability in Monmouth County while providing customers with the benefits of being part of a larger water utility dedicated to safety, quality and affordability,” Mark McDonough, president of New Jersey American Water, said. “Through more than $25 million in planned investments over the next five years, we will modernize critical infrastructure, enhance system resiliency and continue delivering high-quality water service to our new customers.”
Planned capital improvements for the newly absorbed service territory—spanning portions of Marlboro, Manalapan, and Colts Neck Townships—include:
- Upgrading aging customer meters, fire hydrants, and water mains.
- Rehabilitating the water storage tank on Holiday Road in Manalapan.
- Executing targeted treatment plant and system security enhancements.
The newly transitioned customers—located in the southern third of Marlboro, northern half of Manalapan, and parts of Colts Neck—will receive comprehensive welcome packets in the mail outlining account management options. New customers will gain access to New Jersey American Water’s digital tools, including the MyWater online portal, alongside financial relief resources like the H2O Help to Others program.
This transaction marks New Jersey American Water’s eleventh corporate acquisition over the past five years, collectively bringing more than 40,500 new water and wastewater customers into its statewide network.
