The wait for authentic, craft ramen in Bergen County is officially over. Doherty Enterprises and JINYA Ramen Bar celebrated the grand opening of their newest location on April 18, bringing a taste of Tokyo to The Shops at Riverside in Hackensack.
The festivities kicked off with an 11:00 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony, drawing a crowd of eager foodies. To mark the occasion, the first 100 guests through the doors were gifted a voucher for a free bowl of ramen to be redeemed on a future visit.

“JINYA brings a category-defining dining experience that complements The Shops at Riverside,” Timothy Doherty, president and COO of Doherty Enterprises said. “We’re proud to create a warm, modern spot for neighbors, shoppers, and office workers to gather.”
What sets JINYA apart is its commitment to the “slow-simmer.” The restaurant’s signature broths are cooked in-house for over 20 hours, resulting in a rich, complex flavor profile. The menu features:
- Signature Ramen Bowls: Handcrafted noodles paired with slow-simmered stocks.
- Japanese Tapas: A variety of small plates and shareables.
- Curated Craft Bar: A selection of Japanese staples like Sapporo Reserve Black and Asahi, along with premium sake and local craft beers.
Tomo Takahashi, founder of JINYA, expressed his excitement about the partnership with Doherty Enterprises. “Working to bring authentic Japanese hospitality to the Hackensack community has been a rewarding journey,” Takahashi noted.
The addition of JINYA is part of a broader effort by Simon Property Group to diversify the dining options at the premier shopping destination. Trey Peckenpaugh, Vice President of Leasing at Simon, noted that JINYA’s “proven concept” makes it an ideal fit for the center’s goal of remaining a vibrant community destination.
Following the ribbon-cutting, guests were treated to tours of the sleek new interior and a first look at the meticulously prepared menu that is expected to make JINYA a staple of the Hackensack food scene.
