Milestone moment for New Concepts for Living center in Paramus

Day center, which provides support for those with I/DD, celebrates one-year anniversary of state-of-art facility

New Concepts for Living, one of New Jersey’s premier providers of services for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, recently celebrated the 1-year anniversary of its Paramus Achievement Center.

The state-of-the-art space, a converted former Barnes & Noble superstore, has hosted many events since its opening a year ago, including its 4th annual prom and a charity event with Marky Ramone.

But more than anything, the facility has given the I/DD community an environment of independence, growth and community integration.

So said CEO Steve Setteducati.

“Celebrating the one-year anniversary of our Paramus Achievement Center was incredibly meaningful,” he said. “This space represents more than just a building; it’s an inclusive community where individuals with I/DD can thrive.”

Setteducati said that’s the mission of NCFL.

The support

NCFL offers supportive housing and day programs that include:

• Nursing on site or on call

• Physical therapy

• Occupational therapy

• Speech therapy

• Transportation

• Life skills training

• Supervised community outings

• Recreation

• Health & wellness screenings

• Behavioral supports with dedicated sensory rooms

A not-for-profit formed in 1981 by a group of parents who had children with developmental disabilities transitioning into adulthood and who recognized the lack of services available, NCFL has grown into the state’s top provider of community residences, day programs, therapeutic and behavioral services for adults (21+) living with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).

NCFL offers comprehensive support for adults with I/DD, all in a nurturing environment that fosters independence, social interaction, and a strong sense of community, Setteducati said.

Here’s how:

  • NCFL provides three specialized day programs for lower-support, higher-support and medically fragile individuals with I/DD;
  • NCFL provides enriching day programs at an expansive, state-of-the-art Achievement Center in Paramus and modernized center in Rochelle Park;
  • NCFL operates 18 community residences in North Jersey with construction underway on four more, with continued plans to further expand to meet the growing needs of the I/DD community.

Setteducati said he is looking forward to Year Two in Paramus.

“I’m so proud of what we’ve created here and our ability to now serve so many more deserving individuals,” he said. “From milestone events, like the anniversary summer picnic, to everyday moments of growth and joy, this center embodies our mission of enriching the lives of adults with I/DD through caring and compassionate support.”
