Saint Peter’s University is among the Top 20 Hispanic-serving institutions in the country, according to rankings by Washington Monthly, a relative newcomer to the college rankings game.
Saint Peter’s, based in Jersey City, wasn’t the only New Jersey school to make the list: Rutherford-based Felician University (at No. 30) and Union-based Kean University (at No. 37) also were selected to the list.
The fact that three schools from New Jersey made the list is ultra-impressive.
California and Texas dominated the rankings, taking 13 of the Top 15 spots — and 35 of the 50 overall. California State University, Los Angeles was No. 1.
Saint Peter’s University received a number of accolades in Washington Monthly’s 2025 College Guide and Rankings, including a Top 50 ranking for “Best Bang for Your Buck.”
Saint Peter’s President Hubert Benitez certainly was pleased.
“The Washington Monthly rankings underscore the qualities that set Saint Peter’s apart,” he said. “We are proud to be recognized for opening doors of opportunity, supporting students through to graduation, preparing them for meaningful careers and inspiring them to serve their communities.”
Unlike traditional rankings that often focus on prestige, Washington Monthly editors said they evaluate colleges based on their contribution to the public good in three broad categories: social mobility, research and promoting public service.
