Raritan Valley Community College Foundation raises over $162,000 at sold-out golf classic

The Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC) Foundation’s 22nd Annual Golf Classic proved to be a resounding success, raising $162,075 to support student scholarships and strategic college initiatives. The sold-out event, held June 15 at the Neshanic Valley Golf Course, brought together business leaders from across Hunterdon, Somerset, and surrounding counties for a day of networking and philanthropy.

As the foundation’s largest in-person fundraiser, this year’s tournament drew significant backing from the local business community, featuring 56 corporate sponsors. DeSesa Engineering served as the event’s title sponsor, with LJS Electric supporting as the link sponsor.

“This is always a popular event, as it brings people together in a beautiful setting for some networking and a little friendly competition—all in support of Raritan Valley Community College,” Mike Marion, executive director of the RVCC Foundation and the RVCC Alumni Association said. “We are grateful to all of our participants and our generous corporate sponsors, but especially our title sponsor this year, DeSesa Engineering.”

While the primary goal of the tournament is to bolster educational funding, the event also dedicated specific resources to urgent student needs. The “FUEL THE RIDE” initiative, which supports the RVCC Resource Center and Food Pantry, successfully raised $6,500 during the outing. Remaining net proceeds from the tournament will be directed toward scholarships and academic programming that extend beyond the college’s standard budget.

The event remained deeply connected to the student body it serves, featuring performances and contributions from current students:

  • Musical Tribute: Sarah Stefaniak (Class of 2026) opened the festivities with a performance of the National Anthem.
  • Keynote Address: Automotive Technology student Ethan Tassio (Class of 2026) addressed donors and participants during the post-golf dinner.
  • Artistic Showcase: Attendees received a unique memento in the form of note cards featuring works by seven Arts & Design students. Additionally, student artist Aria Mongiello (Class of 2026) created an original oil painting of the Neshanic Valley landscape live during the event.

The RVCC Foundation plays a critical role in the college’s mission, providing the financial resources necessary to maintain the institution’s standing as a premier academic hub for Somerset and Hunterdon counties. The funds raised at the Golf Classic will ensure that the college can continue to provide high-quality education and support services to its diverse student population.
