Faropoint Breaks ground on New Jersey’s first of 16 planned community solar projects

Real estate and renewable energy intersect in Bergen County as Faropoint officially kicks off construction on a major 1.6-megawatt rooftop community solar installation in Fair Lawn.

Located at 19-05 Nevins Road, the project marks the inaugural development in a sweeping 16-project clean energy portfolio across New Jersey. Together, these installations will boast a total capacity exceeding 10 megawatts, signaling a substantial push toward local sustainability by one of the state’s leading industrial real estate owners.

The ambitious initiative is designed to do more than just cut carbon emissions; it aims to directly lower utility burdens for New Jersey residents. At least half of each project’s clean energy capacity is strictly reserved for low- and moderate-income (LMI) households, ensuring that the economic benefits of solar power reach underserved communities.

“We aim to create positive community impact, increase access to clean energy, and become a responsible long-term owner in the markets where we operate,” Brian Nave, Vice President of Asset Management and Renewable Energy at Faropoint said. “As one of the top-five small-bay industrial owners in New Jersey, we believe our scale comes with a responsibility to drive meaningful sustainability initiatives. Utilizing previously unused portions of our buildings allows us to support the communities where we invest.”

By the numbers: Statewide impact

Beyond the Fair Lawn site, the broader initiative is moving rapidly through the state’s pipeline:

  • 16 Total Projects: Spanning across New Jersey with a combined capacity of over 10 megawatts.

  • State Program Integration: Fifteen of the projects have been accepted into New Jersey’s Community Solar Energy Program, with nine already granted notices to proceed into construction.

  • Environmental Yield: The portfolio is projected to generate roughly 12.7 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.

  • Carbon Offset: The green energy production will prevent an estimated 8,500 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year—the equivalent of powering over 2,000 homes annually.

Managing rooftop solar installations across a sprawling real estate footprint requires meticulous behind-the-scenes coordination. Faropoint has collaborated closely with commercial solar advisor SolarKal to navigate financial analysis, competitive procurement, and developer selection.

“Managing solar across a large real estate portfolio takes persistence, coordination, and a lot of work behind the scenes,” said Yaniv Kalish, CEO of SolarKal. “Seeing the first of Faropoint’s New Jersey community solar projects move into construction is a major milestone. And with nine more projects cleared to proceed and a half dozen more behind them, that’s real progress for Faropoint and the communities these projects will serve.”

The partnership has also helped Faropoint secure developers capable of maximizing available federal clean energy incentives. Beyond the Garden State, Faropoint and SolarKal are extending their sustainable blueprint with similar community solar ventures in Illinois, New York, and Maryland.
