Nearly a century after first opening its doors as a lavish 1929 movie palace, the historic Loew’s Jersey Theatre in Jersey City’s Journal Square is set to reopen its doors this fall following a massive, transformative restoration project. The grand re-opening weekend kicks off on Nov. 13.
Tickets for the opening weekend shows go on sale this Sept. 18, at 10:00 AM EST via Ticketmaster.com and LoewsJersey.com.
The newly modernized venue will host a diverse schedule spanning music, comedy, and dance, cementing Journal Square as a premier cultural destination for New Jersey and the New York metropolitan area. Notable upcoming events include:

Originally opened on Sept. 28, 1929, the Loew’s Jersey Theatre was designed by Rapp and Rapp as one of five legendary “Wonder Theatres” commissioned by Loew’s. Designated a National Historic Landmark in 2022, the venue has been meticulously revitalized through a partnership between the Jersey City Redevelopment Agency (JCRA), the State of New Jersey/NJEDA, and Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment (HBSE).
- Flexible Capacity: The reimagined space features adjustable seating configurations ranging from 2,600 to 4,000 guests.
- Modern Upgrades: The massive rehabilitation project updated exterior facades, public spaces, backstage areas, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, alongside state-of-the-art audio and lighting technology.
- Prime Accessibility: Located directly across from the Journal Square Transportation Center, the theatre offers effortless transit access via the PATH train, NJ Transit, and major roadways.
“This reopening represents far more than the return of a historic building, it’s the revival of a landmark that has inspired generations,” Bruce Wheeler, general manager of Loew’s Jersey Theatre, said. “This marks the beginning of a new era for live entertainment in Jersey City and the entire metropolitan region.”
