Jersey City will mark a solemn milestone this week, gathering on Friday to observe the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
Mayor James Solomon will be joined by victims’ families, local first responders, City Council members, faith leaders, and community residents for the annual waterfront remembrance ceremony. The observance begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Jersey City 9/11 Memorial, located along the Hudson River waterfront at the foot of Grand Street.
Situated directly across the river from the World Trade Center site, the waterfront holds profound historical significance for the city. On the day of the attacks, the location served as a major triage and refuge area where Jersey City first responders treated and assisted countless evacuees arriving by boat from Lower Manhattan.
The memorial program will feature designated moments of silence, the traditional reading of the names of Jersey City residents lost in the attacks, and tributes honoring victims, survivors, and the frontline personnel who answered the call.
