Movie buffs and television fans will soon have a dedicated roadmap to explore the Garden State’s rich cinematic history, as legislation sponsored by Assemblyman William F. Moen Jr. establishing the New Jersey Film Trail was officially signed into law.
Sponsored by Moen (D-Camden, Gloucester) alongside Assemblywoman Margie Donlon (D-Monmouth), the new law directs the Division of Travel and Tourism—in consultation with the Motion Picture and Television Development Commission—to identify and catalog famous filming locations statewide.
As part of the initiative, the state will develop an interactive website featuring filming sites, photos, directions, and curated itineraries. These guides are designed to direct visitors toward nearby restaurants, lodging, and local entertainment, turning cinematic tourism into an economic driver for small businesses.
“New Jersey has played a starring role in countless movies and television shows, and now we have an opportunity to turn that history into another reason for people to explore our state,” Moen, chair of the Assembly Tourism, Gaming and the Arts Committee, said. “The New Jersey Film Trail will give residents and visitors a new way to experience the places they have seen on screen while bringing more foot traffic to local restaurants, shops and attractions along the way.”
To ensure comprehensive coverage of the state’s deep on-screen roots, the law includes a public submission portal, allowing private entities and members of the community to recommend favorite local filming locations for inclusion on the trail.
