A striking blend of historic preservation and modern luxury living has officially reached a major construction milestone. SJP Properties, in partnership with Claremont Development, Battery Global Advisors, and equity partner PCCP, has announced the structural topping out of The Lucy, a new 24-story luxury residential tower located at 619 Grove Street in Jersey City.
The ambitious redevelopment project breathes new life into the historic site of the former St. Lucy’s Roman Catholic Church, rectory, and school—which originally closed in 1985—seamlessly integrating early 1900s brick and brownstone masonry into a state-of-the-art residential community. Construction on the 444-apartment tower is slated for completion in 2028.
Designed by Michael Graves Architecture with interior spaces curated by Mary Cook Associates, The Lucy bridges past and present. Meticulous preservation work, which kicked off in September 2025, ensures that key historical elements remain central to the property’s identity.
The original church doors will continue to serve as the main entryway for residents, opening into a lobby that incorporates historic stained-glass windows. Other preserved features include the property’s original iron fence, the historic tower bell, and two structural historical walls. Rising gracefully above these historic facades is the sleek, 24-story glass tower.
“We believe The Lucy will deliver a distinctive residential experience to Jersey City and with the building now topped out, we are one step closer to opening the doors,” Steven Pozycki, Founder and CEO of SJP Properties, said. “This development seamlessly blends luxury living with the character of St. Lucy’s historic structure.”
Richard Sciaretta, Partner at Claremont Development, echoed that sentiment: “Enshrining the legacy of St. Lucy’s historic structure was a priority for the development team, and we are proud to honor that while delivering hundreds of state-of-the-art apartments to one of the most dynamic housing markets in the region.”
Of the 444 total units, 431 will be market-rate residences outfitted with top-tier finishes, including quartz countertops, premium fixtures, solar shades, and top-brand appliances.
The development boasts an expansive collection of indoor and outdoor amenities designed to rival luxury properties across the metropolitan area:
- Indoor Highlights: A resort-style lobby, state-of-the-art fitness center, dedicated dog grooming room, media and game room, multiple fireplace lounges, and fully equipped coworking and conference spaces.
- Outdoor Offerings: A rooftop pool, sky lounge, sundeck equipped with BBQs, and a penthouse bar delivering stunning views of the city skyline.
- Unique Spaces: A standout bell-tower speakeasy, a hydroponic garden, an on-site coffee bar, a grab-and-go market, bicycle storage, and a dedicated shuttle service to the nearby PATH station.
With structural topping out complete, construction led by KL Masters Construction Company moves into its next phase, keeping the project on track to welcome its first residents in 2028.
