The BMW Championship needs more than 2,000 volunteers for its first trip to New Jersey next summer. Volunteer registration for the 2027 event opened this week.
The PGA Tour playoff tournament will be played Aug. 17-22, at Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City. Fans can sign up here.
Volunteers will greet fans, assist corporate hospitality guests, work with players and caddies, distribute live scoring and stats and staff the merchandise tent.
Volunteers must buy a $195 uniform package, which the WGA values at $750. It includes two Peter Millar golf shirts, a Peter Millar outerwear piece, a hat or visor, a clear bag, a weeklong credential, parking during shifts, a ticket discount, and food and drinks during shifts.
Most volunteers must be at least 18, though standard bearers and merchandise tent workers can be 16. Volunteers are asked to work at least three shifts of four to six hours each.
The tournament’s sole beneficiary is the Evans Scholars Foundation, which awards full tuition and housing college scholarships to caddies. The BMW Championship has raised more than $63 million for the foundation since 2007, according to the WGA.
There are 42 Evans Scholars at Rutgers University. With a lead gift from the Fireman family, which founded Liberty National, Jameson Hall D on the Rutgers campus is being renovated into a permanent scholarship house for the chapter. The foundation plans to dedicate it during championship week.
The BMW Championship brings the top 50 players in the FedExCup standings to compete for the J.K. Wadley Trophy and one of 30 spots in the season-ending Tour Championship in Atlanta. Past winners include Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler.
