NJ Transit has rolled out its holiday travel plan for the final long weekend of the summer, offering early getaway service, extended holiday schedules, and expanded fare promotions across its statewide rail, bus, and light rail network.
To help holiday travelers beat afternoon traffic, extra outbound trains will operate across major commuter lines—including the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast, Raritan Valley, Morris & Essex, and Main/Bergen County/Port Jervis lines—between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 4. Supplemental bus service will also launch around midday from the Port Authority Bus Terminal, alongside enhanced schedules for high-volume routes like the No. 137 (Toms River–New York) and No. 319 (New York–Atlantic City–Cape May) running through Monday, Sept. 7.
Additionally, special DoorDash Meadowlands Rail Line service will run on Friday and Saturday evenings to accommodate crowds traveling to and from the Ed Sheeran concerts at MetLife Stadium.
Families traveling over the holiday weekend can take advantage of the expanded Family SuperSaver Fare, which allows up to two children aged 11 and younger to ride free with each fare-paying adult. The promotional period runs continuously from 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 4, until 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
Throughout the holiday weekend, services will transition to adjusted holiday and weekend timetables:

Saturday, Sept. 5 & Sunday, Sept. 6: Regular weekend schedules will operate across all rail lines and light rail systems, with supplemental buses added for holiday crowds.

Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 7: Commuter rail will operate on a weekend and major holiday schedule, featuring an extra train departing Port Jervis at 4:05 p.m. making all stops to Suffern before running express to Secaucus and Hoboken. Bus networks will generally operate on Saturday or Sunday schedules, while light rail lines will follow weekend, Saturday, or Sunday/holiday schedules depending on the specific route.
Officials encourage customers to check schedules in advance via the NJ Transit mobile app, allow extra travel time for roadway congestion near major transit hubs and the Garden State Parkway, and purchase tickets prior to boarding to avoid surcharges.
