RWJBarnabas Health and the New Jersey Devils will hold the 10th edition of their Running With the Devils 5K Run & Walk on Sunday at Essex County’s South Mountain Recreation Complex in West Orange.
The event starts with an opening ceremony at 8:30 a.m., followed by the 5K race and wellness walk at 9 a.m. and an awards ceremony at 10 a.m. The race runs on a USATF-certified course along Cherry Lane and the reservoir.
RWJBarnabas Health CEO Mark Manigan, Devils and Prudential Center President Jake Reynolds and Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo Jr. are expected to attend. So are Devils alumni and Stanley Cup champions Ken Daneyko, Bruce Driver and Colin White. The Devils mascot and mascots from several New Jersey colleges and pro teams will cheer on participants.
All proceeds support RWJBarnabas Health programs, including behavioral health, cancer care, children’s health, heart and vascular care, and women’s health.
Registered runners and walkers get free admission to Turtle Back Zoo on race day, where family activities are planned after the race.
A virtual option runs through Sunday via the RunGo app. New this year, virtual participants can reach 3.1 miles over the course of the month. They also get free zoo admission from Nov. 2-Dec. 30.
