Saint Peter’s Healthcare System announces leap in digital health with Epic EHR Partnership

Saint Peter’s Healthcare System on Tuesday announced a landmark partnership with Epic, the nation’s leading electronic health record (EHR) vendor, to launch a new centralized digital platform. The transition represents a significant investment in the system’s digital transformation, aimed at unifying patient data and streamlining clinical operations across its entire network.

The move to Epic will replace several disconnected systems with a single, integrated “source of truth” for patient information. Once fully operational in 2027, the platform will connect Saint Peter’s University Hospital, its specialized centers, and the Saint Peter’s Physician Associates network into a seamless digital ecosystem.

Currently, Epic serves more than 250 million patients nationwide. By joining this network, Saint Peter’s will benefit from high-level interoperability, allowing for the secure daily exchange of records with other major health systems—a crucial feature for patients who receive care from multiple providers.

Key benefits of the new centralized EHR include:

  • Continuous Care: A single record follows the patient from the emergency department to outpatient surgery and follow-up specialty visits.

  • Clinical Transparency: Immediate access for clinicians to the latest test results, medication lists, and exam summaries, reducing redundant testing.

  • Operational Efficiency: Consolidating multiple legacy systems into one reduces administrative overhead and minimizes the risk of manual data errors.

A cornerstone of the transformation is the introduction of Epic MyChart, a comprehensive patient portal. This “front door” to the healthcare system allows patients to manage their health from any smartphone or computer.

“Having Epic will be a game changer for Saint Peter’s,” Leslie Hirsch, president and CEO of Saint Peter’s Healthcare System said. “Patients will benefit by having secure, round-the-clock access to their medical history… they will be able to request refills and interact with staff through MyChart from the convenience of their phone.”

The integration is also expected to optimize revenue cycle management, ensuring the system can more efficiently manage billing and financial data across its various service lines.

“Epic is an investment in the future, ensuring value-based care by creating a seamless patient experience,” Dr. Jordan Tannenbaum, vice president and chief information officer at Saint Peter’s said. “Our partnership with Epic allows us to stay at the forefront of healthcare technology.”
