Netflix closes $55M purchase for massive Fort Monmouth production hub

Marking a historic turning point for the Jersey Shore, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos joined Gov. Phil Murphy and Gov.-elect Mikie Sherrill Monday to celebrate the official closing of the “Mega Parcel” purchase at Fort Monmouth. The ceremony at The Park Loft signals the start of a $1 billion transformation of the 292-acre former U.S. Army base into Netflix Studios Fort Monmouth.

The project is slated to become one of the largest integrated film and television production facilities in the nation, anchoring New Jersey’s burgeoning reputation as the “Hollywood of the East.”

The development plan is massive in scope, featuring 12 state-of-the-art soundstages totaling nearly 500,000 square feet. Beyond the cameras, the campus will include production offices, mill shops for set building and community-facing amenities designed to revitalize the local economies of Eatontown and Oceanport.

“With construction already underway at Fort Monmouth, Netflix Studios is no longer a promise—it’s a reality taking shape in the heart of Monmouth County,” Murphy said. “This project represents the transformation of a long-dormant site into a world-class creative campus that will generate thousands of jobs.”

The project is expected to be a massive economic engine for the region. Netflix estimates the studio will:

  • Create thousands of permanent jobs in production, construction, and hospitality.

  • Generate billions in economic output for the state of New Jersey over the next decade.

Anchor a production renaissance: Netflix is already filming nearly 20 titles in the state, including Happy Gilmore 2 and the upcoming thriller Here Comes the Flood starring Denzel Washington.

“This project is a great example of what real cooperation looks like,” Ted Sarandos, Netflix co-CEO said. “Over the last few years, we’ve worked with everyone from the Trump Administration to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to the local Fire Departments.”
