Felician, Georgian Court and New Jersey City University all placed in the Top 100
nationally of Newsweek’s first Best Colleges for Women ranking.
Felician, with campuses in Rutherford and Lodi, ranked No. 30 overall. Georgian Court,
in Lakewood Township, was No. 46. New Jersey City University placed No. 63.
Newsweek worked with Gender Fair to produce the rankings, which are intended to help
prospective students and their families make informed decisions.
The rankings evaluate U.S. colleges across four critical categories: leadership, pay and
policies, safety and opportunity.
The methodology draws on federally reported data, providing a new dimension of
insight that complements existing college rankings. It also information on state-level
reproductive health policies, sourced from the Center for Reproductive Rights, so
students can consider how local laws may impact their health care access.
In total, the list ranked 200 schools by number. Here are all of the N.J. schools to make
that list:
- No. 30: Felician
- No. 46: Georgian Court
- No. 63: New Jersey City University
- No. 105: Montclair State
- No. 107: Saint Elizabeth University

Editor-in-chief Jennifer Cunningham said these rankings aren’t meant to be used in
isolation — they’re one tool among many to help navigate the college search process,
she said.
“Nothing replaces visiting campuses and talking with current students,” she said. “But
we hope this list helps identify institutions that are truly committed to supporting
women’s success, both during college and beyond.
“Every school has different strengths, and some factors may matter more to you than
others. We encourage you to explore the rankings, understand the methodology and
discover the colleges that align with your values and aspirations.”
Spelman College, in Atlanta, ranked No. 1 overall. Thomas Jefferson University, in
Philadelphia, was ranked No. 2.
