Hugo Neu appoints Michael Meyer as president of Realty Management to lead next phase of Kearny Point

Hugo Neu recently announced the appointment of Michael Meyer as president of Hugo Neu Realty Management, a move designed to cement the future of the 130-acre Kearny Point industrial campus as a national model for sustainable redevelopment.

Meyer, who previously served as the firm’s director of development, will now hold strategic and operational authority over Kearny Point. His appointment signals a continued commitment to “adaptive reuse”—the process of breathing new life into historic structures—as the former World War I and II shipbuilding complex transforms into a modern innovation hub.

Under Meyer’s leadership as director of development, Kearny Point transitioned from a relic of the industrial age into a vibrant ecosystem. Located along the Hackensack River, the site is positioned in the heart of Foreign-Trade Zone 49 and has become one of New Jersey’s most competitive locations for film and TV stage production.

“Mike brings a rare combination of development expertise, public-sector leadership, and a deep understanding of how real estate can serve the broader public good,” Peter Kelman, CEO & president of Hugo Neu said. “His vision makes him uniquely qualified to lead us into this next phase of growth.”

Meyer’s track record spans some of the most complex urban environments in the United States. His background combines high-level public policy with massive private-sector infrastructure projects.

Key career milestones:

  • Director of Housing and Real Estate (Newark, NJ): Oversaw a $2 billion development pipeline. Under his watch, Newark tripled its production of affordable housing.

  • Assistant Director of Housing (San Jose, CA): Managed a $400 million investment program that delivered 11,000 affordable housing units in Silicon Valley and launched a $30 million down-payment assistance program for public school teachers.

  • Academic Background: Holds a Master’s in Public Policy from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.

Kearny Point is more than just an office park; it is being developed as a climate resiliency model. The campus balances heavy industrial warehouse needs with small business incubation and “green” flexible office spaces.

“Kearny Point contributes towards the reinvigoration of the social and economic fabric of South Kearny,” the company stated, highlighting the site’s role in fostering an ecosystem where diverse businesses can scale through affordable infrastructure and public-private collaboration.

With Meyer at the helm, Hugo Neu Realty Management intends to deepen the property’s integration of arts and culture while expanding its capacity for innovative, “visionary” industrial tenants.
