Hackensack Meridian Southern Ocean Medical Center robotic surgery hospital in Hackensack earns key accreditation

Those in need can now receive advanced robotic surgical care close to home.

Hackensack Meridian Southern Ocean Medical Center (SOMC) has been designated a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery by the Surgical Review Corporation, a nonprofit patient safety organization.

The accreditation extends for three years.

More than 2,500 New Jerseyans have undergone successful robotic procedures at SOMC during the past five years.

Additional top-tier robotic surgeons have expressed interest in joining its team, according to SOMC President and Chief Hospital Executive Brian Walch in a release.

SOMC also recently added two state-of-the-art operating rooms, including a new preparation and recovery suite and a patient waiting area, as part of an ongoing $31.4 million surgical suite expansion.

In November, Hackensack Meridian Health had eight of its medical centers receive designation from the American Heart Association, earning Get With The Guidelines® – Heart Failure awards.

Last year, all eligible Hackensack Meridian Health medical centers achieved the American College of Cardiology’s 2025 NCDR Chest Pain – MI Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award.

The award recognizes the medical centers’ commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients and signifies they have reached an aggressive goal of treating these patients to standard levels of care as outlined by the American College of Cardiology (ACC) / American Heart Association clinical guidelines and recommendations.
